Navigating a Roofing Insurance Claim in Utah
By Ryan Christensen · October 15, 2025

There are specific places where homeowners consistently leave money on the table in a roofing insurance claim. Here's how to avoid them.
Get a professional damage assessment before calling your insurer. When you file, an adjuster is assigned. Having your contractor at the adjuster meeting means two sets of eyes — not one. We attend adjuster meetings as a standard part of our process.
Adjusters look for: impact bruising on shingles, directional wear from wind, damaged ridge cap and hip shingles, and dented gutters, downspouts, and metal flashings. All of these need to be in the scope of loss.
Common items that get missed: starter strip replacement, ridge vent damage, drip edge replacement (required by code on full replacement), and interior damage related to the event.
If items are missed in the initial scope, you can submit a supplement — additional documentation requesting coverage of missed items. We prepare supplement requests when the scope is incomplete.
You have the right to choose your own contractor in Utah. Your insurer cannot require you to use their preferred vendor.
